Builder appointed for Hanwell Community Centre regeneration

25 February 2009

As well as confirming our intention to freeze the Council Tax at last night’s Cabinet we also made some progress on the regeneration of the Hanwell Community Centre.  We  decided to appoint Durkan Limited to carry out more than £2.2million worth of work on the Grade 2 listed building, which English Heritage has identified as [...]

Ealing Conservatives Freeze Council Tax

24 February 2009

The big freeze earlier this month will continue next year – at least, that is, the Council tax in Ealing will be frozen at last year’s level.  Since the Conservatives came in to power in Ealing in 2006 we have seen Council Tax increases of :

2007/8 – 1.9%
2008/9 – 1.9%
2009/10 – 0%

All these increases have [...]

Little Ealing admissions story makes headlines

22 February 2009

Did you see that the school place saga has erupted on to the front page of the Gazette thanks to the Council placing two children into Little Ealing Primary School that lived outside the catchment area, taking the school over the 30 limit in its reception class size?
I’ve asked for an investigation into how this [...]

Time to help pensioners and savers

16 February 2009

One thing that’s always bugged me is the fact that you get taxed on your savings in the bank. You paid tax when you earned it, and if you’re careful and put a bit aside for a rainy day, the Government take another slice. It’s even worse now interest rates for savers are so paltry. [...]

Video of Petts Hill bridge rebuild

12 February 2009

Just came across the following video showing the work that went on over Christmas to replace Petts  Hill Bridge in Northolt.  I don’t think you have to work in the construction industry to find it interesting, but personally I think it’s quite impressive.  Click on the image below to see what happened.

Cleveland Ward Forum 3

11 February 2009

Just back from the latest Cleveland Ward forum and I’m recovering from shock.  Eric Leach (contributor to this blog) actually complemented us on the meeting (and he didn’t even have a go about Arcadia and Dickens Yard as previously promised).
This meeting was at Gurnell Grove community centre.  We were a little concerned that this venue [...]

Youth Conference goes from strength to strength

9 February 2009

It was the third annual youth conference this Saturday at TVU in South Ealing Road. This event is organised by Ealing Youth Action and conjunction with the Council’s Youth and Connexions Service. It’s a great conference which I always find really interesting and it was disappointing that I could only attend the morning due to [...]

Ealing Labour condemn Government (except poodle Pound)

4 February 2009

It was full Council at Ealing Town Hall last night.  Bassam Mahfouz, Northolt West End councillor and Labour’s parliamentary candidate in Ealing Central and Acton, had tabled a motion opposing the expansion of Heathrow airport.  This was clearly a desperate attempt to try and distance himself from the current Government’s decision to expand the airport [...]

Labour peer sees how Ealing does it

3 February 2009

I joined Baroness Delyth Morgan, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Children, Young People and Families at the Horizons in Hanwell last week.  Baroness Morgan came along to see the groundbreaking work that we do to help looked after children and young people in care.
Horizons is the only centre of its kind in London and [...]
