Time for Israel to stop its action

30 December 2008

I am generally a supporter of Israel.  They are a democracy that has faced threats to its existence since it was created.  In the past I have worked closely with Israeli colleagues and found them warm and generous people.  Israel is not a nation of religious zealots and when I visited Tel Aviv (quite a [...]

Merry Christmas

23 December 2008

I’m going to get into the Christmas mood now and going to avoid my computer for the next few days so I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a Merry Christmas and best wishes for the New Year.  I won’t be blogging unless there’s a news story that really winds me up [...]

North Ealing Primary on the telly

22 December 2008

North Ealing Primary School and leader of the Council, Jason Stacey made it on to local London news today.  The story relates around the demand for school places that I have talked about at length on this blog.  If you click on the following link you can see the story until the BBC take it [...]

18 December 2008

At the full meeting of Ealing Council on Tuesday, the leader, Cllr Stacey, announced that in order to help businesses in our town centres, we would waive parking charges in all our off street car parks on the weekends in January.
The four weekends are: 3-4; 10-11; 17-18 and 24-25 January 2009.
The free January weekend parking [...]

Recycling and rubbish collection over Christmas

18 December 2008

Okay, I know we all get confused by the collection days for our recycling and rubbish over Christmas so I thought I’d better post the changes for this year.  In order to ensure deliveries are brought back to normal as quickly as possible, we are bringing forward a number of the collection days before Christmas [...]

Arcadia site in Ealing Broadway gets planning permission

17 December 2008

Hot off the press, I’ve just heard the Glenkerrin planning application for the Arcadia site has been approved by 9 votes to 1.  I’m really surprised as I thought it would be much closer than that.  In fact I wouldn’t have been surprised if the application had been rejected.
The current proposals don’t include the 40 [...]

HIPs are getting worse

14 December 2008

I see that the Government is ratcheting up the use of home information packs despite the fact that there is wide recognition that they duplicate costs and that buyers are not even bothering to consult HIPs.  In May, property firm MDA estimated that over half of all buyers’ solicitors ignore the HIPs searches and commission [...]

No should mean No

12 December 2008

In 2006 the Government launched it’s “No means No” campaign. Clearly the European Union didn’t pick up the campaign message (which was aimed at young lads and the issue of sexual consent) when it came to the Irish vote on the constitution sorry Lisbon Treaty.
I know that the Irish are being heavily bribed, threatened and [...]

Special Needs Provision in Ealing

12 December 2008

I recently took part in the “Walk in Our Shoes” event organised by TreeHouse, the national charity for autism education.  The idea of this event was for decision makers to spend time with parents of autistic children to get a better understanding of their problems.  I joined Hira Karia, mother of two children in Greenford, [...]

Petts Hill Bridge scheme zooms on.

11 December 2008

Work is moving on with the replacement of Petts Hill Bridge, which should significantly improve the traffic situation in that part of Ealing North. There will be some disruption over the Christmas and New Year period when day and night time work will be carried out (from 22nd  December – 7th  January) involving heavy machinery.
The [...]
