Resurfacing in Cleveland Ward

29 September 2008

Cleveland Road being resurfaced

As part of Conservative controlled Ealing Council’s commitment to improve the state of the roads in Ealing, several roads in Cleveland Ward are about to be resurfaced this week (Fosse Way, Bruton Way and Rosebery Gardens).  Clearly there will be a little bit of disruption during the work, but the pothole free [...]

School drop-off madness

29 September 2008

A parent of children at Montpelier Primary School recently wrote to me about dangerous parking at the school during morning drop-off.  I don’t know what it is about some parents but they are willing to put other children in danger just so that they can drop their child as near to the school gate as possible.  [...]

Choices celebrates its 10th anniversary

28 September 2008

Choices, the Ealing pregnancy support centre (part of Care Confidential), celebrated its 10th anniversary on Friday with a celebration and fundraising dinner at the Lensbury in Teddington.  Choices is an invaluable organisation that provides counselling for women finding themselves with an unplanned pregnancy.  Their counsellors will also help the partners and family members as well.

Awards for educational achievement

27 September 2008

I was master at ceremonies at Ealing Council’s Looked After Children’s Education Awards ceremony last night.  This is always a good event and is our way as corporate parents to congratulate the young people in our care that have strived hard in their education.
The young people get their certificates and have their photos to taken [...]

Support the charity drivers

25 September 2008

I’ve just signed up to one of the Downing Street petitions, not something I usually do. There is currently one that supports volunteer drivers.  These are ordinary people in the community that give their spare time up to drive needy people to events, hospital appointments etc.  They can get reimbursed for expenses at a maximum [...]

Target roundabout improvements approved

22 September 2008

I couldn’t attend last weeks Cabinet meeting due to a work commitment.  I was delighted that my colleagues agreed in my absence to approve a scheme to reduce the amount of traffic that builds up in Northolt around the Target Roundabout.
Anybody who has to drive, cycle or get the bus around the Target Roundabout will [...]

Apprenticeship programme grows in Ealing

22 September 2008

I am pleased to see that Ealing Council is expanding the borough apprenticeship scheme that I was responsible for steering through in 2007.  The implementation of an apprenticeship schemem was one of our manifesto commitments in 2006.  The Council will soon have 40 apprentices and it is now extending the programme to other employers in the [...]

Pitshanger Park toilets

21 September 2008

I said I would post an update on the Pitshanger toilets saga.  We’ve been subjected to quite a concerted e-mail campaign calling for the toilets in Pitshanger Park to be reopened.  Park users rightly point out that they have to nip behind bushes to answer the call of nature, which is clearly far from satisfactory.
There [...]

Cleveland Ward forum meeting #1

19 September 2008

We held the first Cleveland Ward Forum last night at the Brentham Club in Meadvale Lane.  Judging by the feedback from the appraisal forms we circulated, it was a tremendous success.  Everybody said they were very or quite likely to attend another meeting.  I chaired the meeting and my fellow Cleveland councillors John Popham and [...]
