Greenford de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro met the Greenford Carnival on Saturday when Yes Brazil samba danced around Ravenor Park, before performing their routine on the main stage (pictured left).  It was certainly eye-catching and I hope Cllr Greg Stafford has managed to pop his eyes back in!.

This year’s carnival was a great success and the park thronged with people enjoying themselves.  Ealing North Conservatives ran a stall and we had lots of visitors, keen to fill in our survey questionnaire (I’m sure that the offer of a free prize draw for a 10 year old bottle of malt whisky had nothing to do with the popularity) or have one of the fortune cookies or balloons that we were giving away.

Many of Ealing North’s Conservative councillors helped out at or visited the Carnival (Cllrs Colm Costello, Greg Stafford, Ian Gibb, John and Rosa Popham pictured right on the stall).  Leader of the Labour Group, Julian Bell also came close enough to the stall to be given a fortune cookie.  Apparently, he became very excited that it read, “You will achieve great things through your leadership”.  I suppose with things looking so bleak for Labour nationally you can’t blame Julian for starting to believe in fortune cookies.  He wandered off with a smile on his face,…….. towards the palm reading tent!
