Greenford residents appalled at Post Office closures

Greenford Green Post OfficeI spent last night survey canvassing residents in Greenford.  A sunny evening and people were in the mood for a chat.  Residents were extremely happy with the improved recycling facilities since the Conservatives came to power, the reusable garden waste sacks were particularly praised.  One area that residents focused on was the Government’s plans to decimate the Post Office network.  The Greenford Green Post Office is due to close soon and this will really affect the more elderly residents in the area that will have to travel all the way down to Greenford station or up  to Sudbury Hill.  Several people commented how easy it is to park around the Greenford Green post office and that the alternatives are more difficult.

Our local MP has already failed to support the local Post Office in Parliament when he had the chance. By contrast, Boris Johnson, the new Conservative mayor of London, has continued with the legal challenge over the consultation process and the Conservative Council in Ealing has started discussions with the Post Office over possible action it can take to support the threatened branches.

It is sad how Labour politicians seem to be abandoning the most vulnerable members of our society that rely on local facilities like these.
