Hanwell Regeneration Meeting

Hanwell Champion - Colm CostelloSt Mary’s Church Hall in Greenford Avenue was packed last night (23/6) with Hanwell residents to discuss the regeneration of Hanwell Town Centre.  Local Conservative councillors Rosa Popham and Colm Costello were at the meeting together with Cllr David Millican who is the Cabinet member for Regeneration.  The Council has earmaked £1 million for the regeneration of the Town Centre with another £2 million for the Hanwell Community Centre.  While £1 million sounds a lot, it won’t go that far so we hope to attract other funding into the pot as well.  Cllr Colm Costello has been made the “champion” for the regeneration, which means that he will drive it through the Council and bang heads together (metaphorically) when necessary.

The meeting had some short presentations and then we broke up into groups for table discussions.  My table was keen to see the shopfronts improved in the centre, wants to see the introduction of a community toilet scheme (where some retailers allow shoppers to use their toilet facilities without having to actually be a customer) and supported the ideas of improving the pavements and the signage to local attractions like the Hanwell Flight and the Bunny Park.

There were a range of good ideas from other tables, many related to the crossing at Church Road not being safe.  The Council officers now need to capture all the ideas and work as many as they can into a scheme to improve the Town Centre.  Champion Costello will be keeping his eye on the ball!
